Sir Christopher Robert Chope OBE (born 19 May 1947) is a British politician and former barrister who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Christchurch in Dorset since 1997. A member of the Conservative Party , he was first elected in 1983 for Southampton Itchen , but lost this seat in 1992 to Labour .
