The building is rectangular with a wood frame and riverstone foundation. The frame is covered in 6-inch (150 mm) clapboard painted white. Edward Sharp (1865–1954) was the county surveyor and roadmaster whose work underlies much of the development in Wasco County. He built this trio of houses (1895–1905) for himself, his family, and their employees in the Queen Anne and Craftsman styles.

Dane County was renamed in 1840 to the current Christian County. The original Knox County, Illinois, became extinct with the formation of the Illinois Territory in 1809 - or, more precisely, it became Knox County, Indiana. The modern Knox County, Illinois was formed much later and was not a part of the original Knox County.
