    PET is used in bottles primarily because of its excellent barrier properties, i.e. it keeps the fizz in and unwanted aromas out. The use of a plasticizer would counteract that. I am not familiar with the formulations that are commonly used in the caps for PET bottles, but there is the need to have some soft material there to get an adequate seal.
