The NRL match officials are a select group of trained professional and semi-professional rugby league match officials who officiate in the National Rugby League (NRL) and lower tier rugby league competitions, including the Holden Cup, the Intrust Super Premiership NSW and the Intrust Super Cup.

Ashley Klein is an Australian rugby league referee. He first refereed in England, beginning his career in the Rugby League Conference, but returned to Australia and referees in the National Rugby League. [3] Klein refereed the NRL grand finals in 2018 [4] and 2022, [5] and has been appointed to control the 2024 grand final. [6]
His international appointments include the 2010 Rugby League Four Nations and 2014 Rugby League Four Nations and the 2013 and 2017 Rugby League World Cups. In August 2017, he became the sixth referee to control 300 NRL matches.
In 2004 he was named the international referee of the year. [3] He moved to Australia in 2005, becoming a National Rugby League referee. [4] He retired at the end of the 2006 NRL season. [1] After retiring, Smith became a video official and, after a stint as the interim boss, [5] [6] acted as a senior advisor to the referees boss, Daniel Anderson.
