Shelton is a city in and the county seat of Mason County, Washington, United States. [6] Shelton is the westernmost city on Puget Sound. The population was 10,371 at the 2020 census. Shelton has a council–manager form of government and was the last city in Washington to use a mayor–commission form of government.
Doyle changed the name of the theater to The Grand Illusion as an homage to "the medium of movies itself" and in honor of the 1937 Jean Renoir film, La Grande Illusion. [2] A non-profit film arts organization, the Northwest Film Forum , saved the theater from closure in 1997, [ 3 ] [ 4 ] remodeled it, and revitalized interest in the institution.

Lambert was born in Shelton, Washington. He graduated from Montesano High School in Montesano in 1975. He graduated from Mount Hood College near Portland and from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City. He began his theatrical career performing in plays in New York while continuing classes.
In 1911 the theater began projecting silent movies. After a fire in 1918, the theater was refurbished by the original architecture firm, overseen by Lowell Lamoreaux. Among the improvements was a movie projection box. The theater re-opened with a viewing of the movie Tom Sawyer, which signaled its shift away from live theater and towards film. [5]
