Crime Wave (also known as The City Is Dark) is a 1954 American film noir starring Sterling Hayden and Gene Nelson, and directed by Andre de Toth. [1] It was adapted from a short story which originally appeared in The Saturday Evening Post - "Criminal Mark" by John and Ward Hawkins. [2]
Other notable film credits include Crime Wave (1954), East of Eden (1955), One-Eyed Jacks (1961), Beach Blanket Bingo (1965), Head (1968) and The Outfit (1973). Carey was also a writer and director, with the low budget independent film The World's Greatest Sinner (1962) being his most noteworthy project.
Crimewave is a 1985 American comedy film directed by Sam Raimi, from a screenplay he co-wrote with the Coen brothers.It stars Reed Birney, Sheree J. Wilson, Paul L. Smith, Brion James, Louise Lasser and Bruce Campbell, with the latter also serving as a co-producer.
The 11th Golden Globe Awards also honored the best films of 1953. There was no award for Best Picture in either the Musical or Comedy categories. Spencer Tracy won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a drama film for The Actress, while David Niven won Best Actor in the Musical or Comedy genre for The Moon Is Blue.
It was the last feature film completely filmed by Kubrick in the United States (interiors for Spartacus were shot on Universal's Hollywood sound stages, but its battle exteriors were shot in Spain). Three members of the cast—Hayden, Ted de Corsia, and Timothy Carey—had appeared together the previous year in the low-budget noir film Crime Wave.
