Cleethorpes (/ ˈ k l iː θ ɔːr p s /) is a seaside town on the estuary of the Humber in North East Lincolnshire, Lincolnshire, England [2] with a population of 29,678 in 2021. [3] It has been permanently occupied since the 6th century, with fishing as its original industry, then developing into a resort in the 19th century.
Pleasure Island Family Theme Park stood on the site of the former Cleethorpes Marineland and Zoo. Owned and operated as a satellite zoo of Flamingo Park, and later by Scotia Leisure, the zoo had such attractions as dolphins, sea lions and pelicans. The zoo closed in 1977.
The original pavilion was destroyed by fire in 1903 but in 1905 a new one was built, halfway along the pier, and also a cafeteria and shops at the entry from the promenade.
