Happy Valley Tea Estate is a tea garden in Darjeeling district in the Indian state of West Bengal.Established in 1854, it is Darjeeling's second oldest tea estate. Spread over 177 hectares (440 acres), it is situated at a height of 2,100 metres (6,900 ft) above sea level, 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) north of Darjeeling, and employs more than 1500 people.
Darjeeling tea is a tea made from Camellia sinensis var. sinensis that is grown and processed in Darjeeling district or Kalimpong district in West Bengal, India. Since 2004, the term Darjeeling tea has been a registered geographical indication referring to products produced on certain estates within Darjeeling and Kalimpong.
Balasun Tea Estate is located near Sonada. [3] The tea plantations cover 181.38 hectares (448.2 acres) and is spread over an altitude of 365 to 1,375 metres (1,198 to 4,511 ft) above mean sea level. It was one of the first few to be awarded fair trade certifications. In 1988 it was the first garden to be awarded/ certified as the fully organic tea garden. [3] [7] Makaibari produces around one lakh kg tea annually. Darjeeling Tea is commanding an average price ranging from Rs. 970–1,050 per kg. Makaibari tea fetches around Rs. 3,000 per kg.
It is one of the oldest plantations in the Darjeeling West valley. It is spread over 510 hectares of land. Phoobsering tea estate was established by the Darjeeling Tea Company in the 1856-1860 along with Ging, Takdah and Ambootia. Phoobsering tea of Oolong variety is prized all over the world for its taste.

The garden was planted by Dr. Charles Graham in 1885. The Goodricke Group took over the garden in 1984. [2] [3]The tea estate was earlier named Kumseri. There was a building named “Bank Ghar’’, which had the look of a castle and from that building, the place became Castleton.
