The University of Balochistan (UoB) was established in October 1970 through an Ordinance issued by the Governor of Balochistan. In 1996, the Balochistan Assembly passed the University of Balochistan ACT . In 2022, a unified ACT for all public sector universities in the province was passed, under which UoB currently operates.
Bolan University of Medical & Health Sciences was conceived in 2004. Initial process was thus started to get it established. Provincial medical entrance exams included the MDCAT conducted by the University of Health Sciences, Lahore in Punjab and Balochistan before the NMDCAT. It was implemented in 1998 as the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) on the initiative of the then chief minister of Punjab Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif to counter replete cheating in HSSC exams at the time.
The college is dedicated to providing medical education and training to students from Balochistan and other parts of the country. It is one of several medical colleges affiliated to the Bolan University of Medical and Health Sciences Quetta [2] and was recently recognized by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council. [3]
The department is a standard body for providing public health, medical education, training and employment in the Balochistan. [2] It is headed by the Health Minister of Balochistan on democratic level, while controlled by the Secretary Health as well as the Director General Health Services Balochistan on bureaucratic level. The university was established in 2009 as a sub-campus of the University of Balochistan (UOB) Quetta.For this purpose, 500 acres of land at Zarr Karerz was provided by the Provincial Government which allocated 12 km from Loralai City at Quetta Road.
