On 17 March and 24 March 2011, the production was broadcast to cinemas around the world as a part of the National Theatre Live programme. [3]The National Theatre's production of Frankenstein returned to cinema screens worldwide for a limited season in June, July and December 2012, [4] as well as for encore screenings in October and November 2013.
Following the success of the 2019 run, the production was scheduled to return to the Olivier Theatre from in October 2020, however has since been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [4] The NT Live recording was streamed on YouTube as part of the National Theatre at Home programme from 18 to 25 June 2020.
The production was broadcast live to cinemas as part of National Theatre Live on 13 June 2013. [12] The initial broadcast broke the record for most people watching a production live since the scheme began, with nearly 80,000 people watching in the UK and 30,000 people in North America.
