Louisiana Highway 442 (LA 442) runs 23.22 miles (37.37 km) in an east–west direction from LA 63 north of Livingston to the junction of LA 40 and LA 443 north of Hammond. [ 70 ] The route heads east from LA 63 and intersects LA 1036 and LA 441 , both of which it overlaps as it crosses various branches of the Tickfaw River .
The highway heads northeast along Greenwell Springs Road and, about a mile after exiting the city limits, curves northward. Now running parallel with the Amite River , LA 37 begins a concurrency with LA 64 that lasts through much of Central , a newer city that encompasses smaller communities such as Greenwell Springs .
Here, LA 64 turns east while LA 37 continues ahead on Greenwell Springs Road toward Baton Rouge. LA 64 proceeds as an undivided four-lane highway across the Amite River via the Magnolia Bridge, simultaneously crossing out of East Baton Rouge Parish and the city of Central and into unincorporated Livingston Parish.
