Endeavour is a British television detective drama series created by Russell Lewis and co-produced by Mammoth Screen and Masterpiece in association with ITV Studios.It is a prequel to the long-running Inspector Morse series and was first broadcast on ITV1 in the United Kingdom on 2 January 2012 and on PBS in the United States on 1 July 2012, as part of the Masterpiece Mystery! anthology.
After a pilot episode broadcast in 2012, set in 1965, the first series was broadcast in 2013, also set in 1965. The second series was set in 1966, while the third and fourth series were both set in 1967. The fifth series, with six episodes, was set in 1968, [1] and the sixth series picked up eight months later, set in 1969.
Inspector Morse is a British television crime drama, starring John Thaw and Kevin Whately, for which eight series were broadcast between 1987 and 2000, totalling thirty-three episodes. Although the last five episodes were each broadcast a year apart (two years before the final episode), when released on DVD, they were billed as Series Eight.
While with the Oxford City Police, Morse is taken under the wing of veteran Inspector Thursday. Thursday names Endeavour his designated "bag man" and shows him the ropes as Morse begins to solve a string of complex murders, much to the envy and annoyance of some of his superiors, particularly Detective Sergeant Peter Jakes and Police Chief Superintendent Reginald Bright.
The character also appears, as a Police Constable and Detective Sergeant, in the prequel series Endeavour, portrayed by Sean Rigby. [1] Although Strange does not appear in every episode of Inspector Morse, he is present in the whole series (of 33 2-hour TV films) from beginning to end. He is absent from only a few of the intervening episodes.
