Montrose is a village in Effingham and Cumberland counties in the U.S. state of Illinois.The population was 210 at the 2020 census.The Effingham County portion of Montrose is part of the Effingham Micropolitan Statistical Area, while the small section that lies in Cumberland County is part of the Charleston–Mattoon Micropolitan Statistical Area.
Hillside School District 93 is a school district headquartered in Hillside, Illinois in the Chicago metropolitan area. It operates one K-8 school, Hillside School. In addition to most of Hillside it also serves sections of Berkeley, Elmhurst, and Westchester. As of 1960 the school is next door to the Hillside village hall. [2]
The Illinois Central Railroad station, known as Hillside because westbound trains had to ascend a slope at this location, served as the inspiration for the village's name when it was founded in 1905. The community had its first significant residential growth during the 1920s when additional farmland was split up and sold.
State law specifies that no two townships in Illinois shall have the same name, [3] and that, if the Illinois Secretary of State compares the township abstracts and finds a duplicate, the county that last adopted the name shall instead adopt a different name at the next county board meeting. [4]
Proviso Township is one of 29 townships in Cook County, Illinois, United States.As of the 2020 census, its population was 151,209. [1] It was organized in 1850 and originally named "Taylor", but shortly afterward its name was changed to make reference to the Wilmot Proviso, a contemporary piece of legislation intended to stop the spread of slavery.
