The New Jersey Turnpike Authority had proposed to build two roads that were to pass through Monroe. The first was the Driscoll Expressway which was to start from the Garden State Parkway at exit 80 in South Toms River and end three miles (4.8 km) north of exit 8A along the turnpike in South Brunswick. This project was terminated in the 1980s.
