Outer South is the fifth solo studio album by American musician Conor Oberst and the second to be credited to Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band.It is Oberst's first solo album to include songs written and sung by his bandmates.
Conor Mullen Oberst (born February 15, 1980) is an American singer-songwriter best known for his work in Bright Eyes.He has also played in several other bands, including Desaparecidos, the Faint (previously named Norman Bailer), Commander Venus, Park Ave., Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band, Monsters of Folk, and Better Oblivion Community Center.
The debut album, titled Conor Oberst, was released in the UK on Wichita on 5 August 2008 and 6 August 2008 on Merge Records in the U.S, billed as a solo album by Oberst. In October 2008 the band released the Gentlemen's Pact EP (again, billed as a solo effort from Oberst), which was available in limited quantities and sold only at shows.
The EP was exclusively available to purchase at concerts during the 2008 tour, and was limited to an edition of 1,000 physical copies. It was released under the name Conor Oberst. [1] The EP was included as a pre-order bonus to Oberst's second solo album, Outer South, by iTunes in May 2009.
Monsters of Folk was an American supergroup, consisting of Jim James from My Morning Jacket, Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis from Bright Eyes, Will Johnson from Centro-matic and M. Ward, solo artist and half of She & Him. [1] The band was formed in 2004 when the members were on tour with their respective bands and solo projects.

On October 28, 2015, Oberst was hospitalized due to "laryngitis, anxiety, and exhaustion," and the rest of the bands remaining tour dates, including a benefit show that was to include Tom Morello, were cancelled and Oberst returned to his hometown of Omaha to recuperate. [14] The shows were never rescheduled following the cancellations.
