The S16 is a regional railway service of the S-Bahn Zürich on the Zürcher Verkehrsverbund (ZVV), Zürich transportation network, and is one of the network's services providing service within the canton of Zürich. At Zürich HB, trains of the S16 service usually depart from underground tracks (Gleis) 41–44 (Museumstrasse station).
Stadelhofen station is a nodal point of the Zürich transport network. The main station is served by lines S3, S5, S6, S7, S9, S11, S12, S15 and S16 of the Zürich S-Bahn, running on the SBB lines. The S20 and S23 provide additional peak-hour service.
As a consequence the section of the right bank line between Zürich Hbf and Stadelhofen is now part of the backbone of the Zürich S-Bahn, carrying no fewer than eight separate routes. [1] [2] However beyond Stadelhofen the traffic reduces to three S-Bahn routes. Routes S6 and S16 stop at all stations as far as Uetikon or Meilen respectively.
The Zurich S-Bahn (German: S-Bahn Zürich) system is a network of rail lines that has been incrementally expanded to cover the ZVV area, which comprises the entire canton of Zurich and portions of neighbouring cantons (Aargau, Glarus, Schaffhausen, Schwyz, St. Gallen, Thurgau and Zug), with a few lines extending into or crossing the territory of southern Germany.
The station is served by the following passenger trains: [3] [4] [5] S6 Baden AG–Regensdorf-Watt–Hardbrücke–Zürich HB–Uetikon; S16 Zürich Flughafen –Hardbrücke–Zürich HB–Herrliberg-Feldmeilen (–Meilen) Extended in the evening to Meilen. S20 Uerikon–Zürich HB–Hardbrücke
The station sits in the approach to Zürich Hauptbahnhof (Zürich HB), Zürich's main station, on the Zürich–Baden line near its junction with the Käferberg Tunnel variant of the Zürich–Winterthur line, and to the north of the through tracks that carry long-distance passenger and occasional freight trains.
Eleven regional train lines of the Zürich S-Bahn serve the station, as do several InterCity, InterRegio and RegioExpress lines. Serving approximately 85,000 daily rail passengers, Zürich Oerlikon is the seventh busiest railway station in Switzerland. [3] It is also served by three tramway and nine local bus lines.
Zürich Hauptbahnhof (Zürich Main Station or Zürich Central Station), often shortened to Zürich HB or just HB, is the largest railway station in Switzerland and one of the busiest in Europe. Zürich is a major railway hub, with services to and from across Switzerland and neighbouring countries such as Germany, Italy, Austria and France.
