Kone Oyj (Finnish pronunciation:; officially known as KONE and trading as KONE Corporation) is an elevator engineering company employing over 60,000 personnel across 60 countries worldwide. Koné (KOH-nay), also spelt Kone, is a surname found mostly in North and West Africa, in particular Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, and Guinea. [ 1 ] Historically, the name Koné is a clan name (or patronym [ 2 ] ) of the Mandinka and closely related Bambara peoples . [ 3 ]
Koné is the seat of the government of the Northern Province, dominated since the Province was established by pro-Independence politicians. The aim has been to develop Koné and neighbouring towns into an economic growth pole, anchored by the large Koniambo project and nickel mine.
Konecranes originated within the Finnish Kone Corporation. Its history traces back to 1933 when Kone embarked on the production of Electric Overhead Traveling Cranes. In 1988 the crane business was combined into the KONE Cranes Division. [7] KONE Cranes Division remained an integral component of Kone until the year 1994.
In December 2022, English Championship club Watford announced they had agreed to sign Koné on a transfer from CF Montréal, with the midfielder signing a four-and-a-half-year deal. [22] He made his debut on January 7, 2023, starting an FA Cup match against Reading . [ 23 ]
Koné is a youth international for France. He has competed at U18, U19 and U21 level. [13] Koné also represented France at the 2024 Summer Olympics, winning a silver medal after losing 5–3 in the final against Spain.
In his second season at the club, English side Arsenal's manager Arsène Wenger labelled him a 'phenomenon' [4] and one of the hottest prospects in French football, leading to speculation that the forward would be playing in the English Premiership.
