De Soto / d ə ˈ s oʊ t oʊ / is a city along the Kansas River, in Johnson and Leavenworth counties in the U.S. state of Kansas, [1] and part of the Kansas City Metropolitan Area. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 6,118, [3] and the 2021 estimate is 6,380. [4]
Delaware City was platted in 1854. [2] A post office called Delaware City was established in 1856, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1878. [ 3 ]

White City was founded in 1871 by a colony from Chicago. [5] It was named for F.C. White, superintendent of the Neosho division of the M-K-T Railroad , which was built on the land in 1868, prior to the existence of the community. [ 6 ]
