Kirklees is a metropolitan borough of West Yorkshire, England. The borough comprises the ten towns of Batley , Birstall , Cleckheaton , Dewsbury , Heckmondwike , Holmfirth , Huddersfield , Meltham , Mirfield and Slaithwaite .
Holmfirth (/ ˈ h oʊ m f ɜː θ /) is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Kirklees, West Yorkshire, England.It is located 6 miles (9.7 km) south of Huddersfield and 14 miles (23 km) west of Barnsley; the boundary of the Peak District National Park is 2 miles (3.2 km) to the south-west.
Although the inscription is probably a forgery, there may have been a grave marker on this site as early as the 16th century. John Leland, in his Collectanea (compiled in the 1530s), mentions the tradition that Robin Hood is buried near Kirklees Priory, [8] but the earliest definite reference to the presence of a gravestone is found in Richard Grafton's Chronicle at Large (1569).

In 1894 Heckmondwike Urban District Council was established and was incorporated into Kirklees in the local government reorganisation of 1974. The Heckmondwike electoral ward includes Millbridge, Flush, and Norristhorpe in Liversedge south of the A62 road. Heckmondwike ward is represented on Kirklees Council by three Labour councillors.
