Although the parish of St. Mary's was renamed "Mary Immaculate of Lourdes" at the consecration of the new church building on Thanksgiving Day, 1910, the parish cemetery retained its original name of St. Mary's. Much of the work to clear and construct the cemetery was done by hired and volunteer parishioners.
St. Joseph Parish started as a mission of St. Mary's in 1894, meeting in a chapel of convenience on Lawrence Street. St. Joseph's was established as an independent parish in 1900, from territory taken in part from St. Mary's and also the parishes of St. Patrick and St. Francis, both in New Haven.
In 4 August 2015, a fire destroyed the chapel that contained the Shrine of St Dymphna within St. Mary's Catholic Church, as well as the parish's baptistry. In 1937 Pope Pius XI named St. Mary's the cathedral of the St. Cloud Diocese. [4] At that time the Benedictine monks left St. Mary's for St. Augustine parish on the east side of St. Cloud and were replaced by diocesan clergy. The rectory had fallen into disrepair and was torn down in 1947.
