It lives in a variety of water types, from anoxic conditions (slack water zones surrounded by dense vegetation) to slightly turbid, but free-flowing, streams. [1] It can be found in waters with pH range of 5.8 to 8.3, a water hardness of 0–30dGH, and a temperature range of 64–83 °F (18–28 °C). [1]
Pterygoplichthys anisitsi [1] [2] also known as the Paraná sailfin catfish, southern sailfin catfish, is a species of catfish in the family Loricariidae. [3] Its natural range is the middle Paraná and Uruguay River basins of south-central South America, [4] but it has been introduced to North America and South Asia, probably via the pet trade.

[ 3 ] This family previously included fish that are now classified under Pseudopimelodidae (previously subfamily Pseudopimelodinae) and Heptapteridae (previously subfamily Rhamdiinae). [ 3 ]
