An entity–relationship model (or ER model) describes interrelated things of interest in a specific domain of knowledge. A basic ER model is composed of entity types (which classify the things of interest) and specifies relationships that can exist between entities (instances of those entity types).
Before Chen's paper, the basic entity–relationship ideas were used mostly informally by practitioners. Chen first published an abstract and presented his ER model in the First Very Large Database Conference in September 1975, the same year of a paper with similar concepts written by A. P. G. Brown. A sample ER diagram. Database requirements for a CD collection in EXPRESS-G notation.. In 1976, an entity-relationship (ER) graphic notation was introduced by Peter Chen.He stressed that it was a "semantic" modelling technique and independent of any database modelling techniques such as Hierarchical, CODASYL, Relational etc. [2] Since then, languages for information models have continued to ...
The ER – International Conference on Conceptual Modeling is an annual research conference computer science dedicated to information and conceptual modeling.Since the first event in 1979 in Los Angeles, California, USA, the conference has evolved into one of the major forums for research on conceptual modeling and information retrieval.
In the 1970s entity–relationship modeling emerged as a new type of conceptual data modeling, originally formalized in 1976 by Peter Chen. Entity–relationship models were being used in the first stage of information system design during the requirements analysis to describe information needs or the type of information that is to be stored in ...
Peter Chen (born 1947) known for the development of entity–relationship modeling. Edsger W. Dijkstra (1930–2002) developed the framework for a form of structured programming. David Parnas (born 1941) developed the concept of information hiding in modular programming.
The company was founded in 2017, under the name Embodied Intelligence, [2] by Pieter Abbeel, Peter Chen, Rocky Duan, and Tianhao Zhang. [3] Chen serves as CEO, Abbeel as president and chief scientist, and Duan as chief technology officer. [1]
Enterprise modelling is the process of building models of whole or part of an enterprise with process models, data models, resource models and/or new ontologies etc. It is based on knowledge about the enterprise, previous models and/or reference models as well as domain ontologies using model representation languages.
