The Amazon Theatre (Portuguese: Teatro Amazonas) is an opera house located in Manaus, in the heart of the Amazon rainforest in Brazil. It is the location of the annual Festival Amazonas de Ópera (Amazonas Opera Festival) and the home of the Amazonas Philharmonic Orchestra which regularly rehearses and performs at the Amazon Theatre along with choirs, musical concerts and other performances.
Daniel Catán Porteny (April 3, 1949 – April 9, 2011) [1] was a Mexican composer, writer [2] and professor known particularly for his operas and his contribution of the Spanish language to the international repertory.
The logo of the orchestra (a lily-pad superscript of "Amazonas Philharmonic") was created by Hans Donner, known designer of Rede Globo (a major Brazilian television network). [3] In April 2008, the opera, "Ça Ira" by Roger Waters (from the musical group, Pink Floyd) was performed in Brazil by the Amazonas Philharmonic, at the Teatro Amazonas.
