The subjective events allow students more creativity than the objective events. The speech event is divided into prepared and impromptu sections. A three-and-a-half to four-minute long prepared speech is delivered. The student is then given one minute to read three prompts and deliver a one-and-a-half to two-minute impromptu speech. [72]

Hazen has an active music and drama department. Hazen High's Divina Voce Choir placed 1st in State in 2017 (under the direction of Mr. Viles). Hazen has an extremely strong DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) chapter. Each year, Hazen DECA members compete at the Area, State, and National Level.
Naperville North also has a DECA Chapter. The DECA chapter has grown in size and in caliber. In the past five years, Naperville North's DECA chapter has had over fifty different state qualifiers, ten state winners (top three), five national winners, including one taking the championship, and elected a State President, who leads Illinois DECA.
