  2. Orifice plate - Wikipedia

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orifice_plate

Orifice plate showing vena contracta. An orifice plate is a thin plate with a hole in it, which is usually placed in a pipe. When a fluid (whether liquid or gaseous) passes through the orifice, its pressure builds up slightly upstream of the orifice [1] but as the fluid is forced to converge to pass through the hole, the velocity increases and the fluid pressure decreases.

  3. Flow conditioning - Wikipedia

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flow_conditioning

An additional drawback of the conventional 19 tube, tube bundle is variation in sizing. The conventional tube bundle provides errors very much dependent on installation details, that is, the elbows on and out of plane, tees, valves and distances from the last pipe installation to the conditioner and conditioner to the orifice plate.

  4. Flow measurement - Wikipedia

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flow_measurement

An orifice plate is a plate with a hole through it, placed perpendicular to the flow; it constricts the flow, and measuring the pressure differential across the constriction gives the flow rate. It is basically a crude form of Venturi meter, but with higher energy losses. There are three type of orifice: concentric, eccentric, and segmental. [7 ...

  5. Gas meter - Wikipedia

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gas_meter

An orifice gas meter consists of a straight length of pipe inside which a precisely known orifice plate creates a pressure drop, thereby affecting flow. Orifice meters are a type of differential meter, all of which infer the rate of gas flow by measuring the pressure difference across a deliberately designed and installed flow disturbance.

  6. Vena contracta - Wikipedia

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vena_contracta

The coefficient of contraction is defined as the ratio between the area of the jet at the vena contracta and the area of the orifice. C c = Area at vena contracta/Area of orifice. The typical value may be taken as 0.611 for a sharp orifice (concentric with the flow channel). [2] [3] The smaller the value, the greater the effect the vena ...

  7. Restrictive flow orifice - Wikipedia

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Restrictive_flow_orifice

A restrictive flow orifice (RFO) is a type of orifice plate. They are used to limit the potential danger, damage, or wastage of an uncontrolled flow from, for example, a compressed gas cylinder [1] [2] They are generally not limiting the flow during normal operation but if a fault or failure occurs causing uncontrolled flow the orifice will present a restriction, limiting the flow.

  9. Turndown ratio - Wikipedia

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turndown_ratio

An orifice plate meter has a practical turndown ratio of 3:1. A turbine meter has a turndown ratio of 10:1. Rotary positive displacement meters have a turndown ratio of between 10:1 and 80:1, depending on the manufacturer and the application. Diaphragm meters are considered to have a turndown ratio of 80:1.
