100 Proof (Aged in Soul) was an American funk/soul group, who formed in Detroit, Michigan, in 1969. They were put together by former Motown songwriting team Holland-Dozier-Holland, signing the group to their new Hot Wax Records label. The group went on to release several hit singles between 1969 and 1972.
Released as 100 Proof's second single, it became a Top Ten hit on the US pop chart, reaching No.8 in 1970, and performed even better on the R&B chart, making it to No.6. Although the group would continue to score R&B hits up until their break-up in 1973, none of their singles reached the same level of success.
The song, written by Clyde Wilson (a member of 100 Proof who performed under the name of Steve Mancha) and Ronald Dunbar and produced by HDH, became a hit, peaking at No. 11 in the U.S. Billboard chart.
