IIIT Pune was declared as an Institute of National Importance (INI) in August 2017. [3] IIITP is located in Pune, Maharashtra, and it started its academic sessions from July 2016. The institute was allotted 260 acres (1.1 km 2) acres in close proximity to the Jabalpur Airport and Dumna Nature Reserve Park, in 2006 following the appointment of Dr. Sanjeev Bhargava as director. Construction of the (Phase-I buildings) Core-Lab-Complex and Residencial-Hostels started thereafter and was completed in June 2009.
