Open Virtualization Format (OVF) is an open standard for packaging and distributing virtual appliances or, more generally, software to be run in virtual machines.. The standard describes an "open, secure, portable, efficient and extensible format for the packaging and distribution of software to be run in virtual machines".
It may also be distributed as Open Virtual Appliance (OVA), the .ova file format is interchangeable with .ovf. The Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF) publishes the OVF specification documentation. [1] Most virtualization platforms, including those from VMware, Microsoft, Oracle, and Citrix, can install virtual appliances from an OVF file. [2]
After the Easy Install operation is complete, VMware Tools may fail to install as some guest operating systems, such as Windows 7, Server 2008 R2 and Server 2012 R2, need some Windows Updates to first be installed (KB4474419 and KB4490628 for Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2; KB2919355 and installation of the .NET Framework 3.5 for Server 2012 R2)
Installable Live CD/USB: a hybrid ISO image which can be burned to either CD or USB [7] and used to install on both bare metal (I.e. a non-virtualized physical machine) and virtual machines, including VMware, Xen, XenServer, VirtualBox, and KVM. This image can also run live in non-persistent demo mode.
All VMware virtualization products support VMDK; this includes VMware Workstation, VMware Workstation Player, VMware Server, VMware Fusion, VMware ESX, VMware ESXi, and all software-plus-service offerings that incorporate them. Third-party software that support VMDK include: Parallels Desktop for Mac version 10 [4] QEMU; VirtualBox [5] former ...
It is one of the few pieces of virtual machine software available for Android capable of emulating Microsoft Windows, [31] although it was designed to emulate Linux and DOS. Unlike other QEMU-based emulators, it does not require users to type commands to use, instead having a user interface to set the virtual machine's settings.
The CME FedWatch Tool, which measures market expectations for Fed fund rate changes, projects a 67% chance the Fed will cut rates by a quarter percentage point to a range of 4.25% to 4.50% at its ...
A virtual appliance could be built using either a standard virtual machine format such as Open Virtualization Format (OVF), or a format specific to a particular virtual machine container (for example, VMware, VirtualBox, or Amazon EC2).
