"Liar" is a song written by Russ Ballard of Argent from their 1970 self-titled debut album. It was released as the band's first single, but did not chart. A version by Three Dog Night was released the following year and was featured on the band's album, Naturally. [1] It was the follow-up to the biggest hit of the band's career, "Joy to the World."

It was a solid start and contained the song "Liar", which was subsequently covered by Three Dog Night. 1971's Ring of Hands was their second album and featured the minor hit "Sweet Mary".
Ballard left Argent in 1974 and pursued a solo and songwriting career. He wrote such hits as Three Dog Night's "Liar" [1] (originally recorded by Argent), Hot Chocolate's 1977 UK chart topper "So You Win Again", [1] [2] and Rainbow's 1979 hit "Since You Been Gone".
Argent was born in St Albans, Hertfordshire, into a working-class family.His father, Les Argent, was an aeronautical engineer who machined parts at the De Havilland aircraft factory; he had also been the leader of two semi-professional dance bands, the Les Argent Quartet and Les Argent and his Rhythm Kings.

The Argent Anthology - A Collection of Greatest Hits is the first compilation album released by British rock band Argent.It was released on the Epic label in 1976. The British release was called The Best of Argent - An Anthology and had a different track list.
