Milan (/ ˈ m aɪ l ən / MY-lən) [5] is a village in Erie and Huron counties in the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 1,371 at the 2020 census . It is best known as the birthplace and childhood home of Thomas Edison .
In 1787, the village of "Petquotting"/"New Salem" was established by the Moravian Indians (about 3 miles (5 km) north of present Milan village); they abandoned this village by 1791, but returned in 1804, until about 1808, to a new location within the now village of Milan.
