Carleton Place is a town in Eastern Ontario, Canada, in Lanark County, about 55 kilometres (34 mi) west of downtown Ottawa. [3] It is located at the crossroads of Highway 15 and Highway 7 , halfway between the towns of Perth , Almonte , Smiths Falls , and the nation's capital , Ottawa .

Highway 7B was a 3.21-kilometre (1.99 mi) bypass along the northern edge of Carleton Place that existed between 1961 and 1998. When it was decommissioned on January 1, 1998, and transferred to Lanark County, it followed Townline Road from Highway 7 easterly to Highway 15 (now Lanark County Road 29).

The lake is a widening of Ontario's Mississippi River, which flows east then north through the lake, from waterfalls at Innisville to a dam in Carleton Place. [2] Several small creeks including Cranberry Creek, McCrearys Creek, and McGibbon Creek drain into the lake from adjoining forest and agricultural land.
