Ruger has not been very consistent in that regard. Some Minis come with barely over .030" protrusion, and some come with .036" to .038". So not everyone will take a new Mini-30 out of the box and have trouble free ignition with Berdan primed Russian ammo.
While the thicker tapered barrels which Ruger went to partway through the 580 series are most desirable with the Mini -14, they don't matter with the Mini-30. All Mini-30's ever made came with .625" diameter barrels, same as the new tapered barrel Mini-14's. There were never any "pencil barrel" Mini-30's like there were Mini-14's.
My Mini 14 has an Ultimak forward rail and the Mini 30 has an Amega forward rail. Much prefer the Ultimak. Both rifles are carrying Holosun red dots. I tried a 2.75X scout scope on the 14 and did not care for it. I have a pair of Bushnell Trophy XLT Shotgun scopes 1.75-4X32 set up in Ruger rings for over the receiver.
I am in the market for a rugged and reliable moderately priced scope for my mini-30 ranch rifle. I have the scope rings that came with the rifle. My ranch is a older one (1999). It is also stainless. I have been looking at all price ranges and just confused on what I should be looking for. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you,
Geography has a lot to do with value on guns these days. Notice that the posters from MT and KY weren't as keen on the deal. That's because those of us that live in red states can find new 58* series Mini-14s in our LGS for about $700 or so. I live in KY too and used Mini-14's are available all day on Armslist.
Yes. My two Mini=30's despite being older ones, have a .625" barrel, where older Mini-14's had the .560" "pencil barrel". So I figured the single clamp model would be sufficient. The shorter Socom w/ single clamp is better looking IMO. I suppose you could use the two clamp model on your tapered barrel and just put the back clamp forward of the ...
You have a few options depending on what series Mini-14 you have. Is it an older model with skinny barrel, or a newer 580+ series with thicker barrel. The thickness of the barrel and the type and position of the front sight will determine what options you have.

for a wood stock Mini i'd also like to recommend the Ruger Cobra sling. the dark brown looks very good against the wood and is quite comfortable to carry. for a composite stock i like the Specter Gear 2 point sling, but they also offer a 3 point if you prefer. its a tactical nylon sling that attaches to the left side with wrap around style end ...
A good bolt gun in the same caliber is a nice stablemate for the Mini-30 or Mini-14. The Ruger American Ranch or the CZ 527 fill the bill. I've got the CZ 527 American in 7.62x39 with 22" barrel.
