Philips Avent, stylized as Philips AVENT, is a child care brand which manufactures baby bottles, breast pumps, and other baby feeding and health accessories. It is based in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Electric breast pumps are larger than manual ones, but portable models are available (e.g. in a backpack or shoulder bag). Some models include battery packs or built-in batteries to enable portable operation of the pump. Some electric pumps allow multi-user operation but recommend an accessory kit for each user to maintain cleanliness. [26]
Manual pumps require a handle or lever be squeezed by the user which creates a vacuum that extracts the breast milk. Battery-powered and electric pumps rely on a small motorized pump which creates suction to collect milk. Hand expression of breast milk is the process of using one's hand to remove milk from the breast. It is a useful skill for lactating women to have as it can help relieve engorgement, maintain milk supply, and provide breast milk to a baby in the absence of a breast pump. [1]
Although breastfeeding is the ideal nutritional precursor to baby led weaning (as the baby has been exposed to different flavors [7] via its mother's breast milk), it is also entirely possible to introduce a formula-fed baby to solids using the baby-led weaning approach. Formula-fed babies can successfully wean using baby-led weaning.
