The Coral Sea Marine Park (previously known as the Coral Sea Commonwealth Marine Reserve) is an Australian marine park located in the Coral Sea off the coast of Queensland. The marine park covers an area of 989,836 km 2 (382,178 sq mi) and is assigned IUCN category IV.
The first functions of the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries began in 1855 when a sheep scab inspector began work in the New South Wales colony of Moreton Bay.After Queensland's Separation, livestock diseases were addressed through regulations administered by the Stock Branch in the Queensland Colonial Secretary's Office. Established in 1949 as the Dunwich Laboratory, the station was a facility established by the Queensland government.
