Saint Mary, Mother of God Church (commonly known as St. Mary Church, Grand Old St. Mary's, [1] or St. Mary, Mother of God [4]) is the third oldest Catholic church building in Columbus, Ohio [5] [6] and is home to an active parish in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Columbus.
Immaculate Heart of Mary remains an active parish church in the Diocese of Pittsburgh as of 2023. In 2019 it was reorganized as a personal (non-territorial) parish within the Shrines of Pittsburgh, a grouping of six churches with unique histories which the diocese hoped to promote as pilgrimage and visitor destinations. In 1874, a new St. Mary's Church was built next door. St. Mary's merged with three other Lawrenceville parishes (Holy Family, St. Augustine, and St. John the Baptist) in 1993 to form the new Our Lady of Angels parish. The St. Mary church buildings remained in use for a few years but closed in 2004. [3]
