Dunno about 24v models, but Spruce lists a couple lower-priced options. $28.50 Battery Tender Jr (12v @ .75 a-- but not for Concorde or Gill batteries), and$45.85 Battery Tender Plus (12v @ 1.25a). Much less money than Power Tender ($86) & various Battery Minder models ($189 & up).
I'd like to ask for recommendations for an AGM portable battery jumper capable of boosting an Odyssey PC-680 AGM battery to start an IO-360. Ideally the jumper is small; I've heard some units could even be pocket-sized. Before I head out far away from civilization, having a portable battery jumper sounds like a good idea....
If it's not in the engine room, you're asking a LOT of that small battery to function through the VERY long battery cable from back aft. I'd consider moving the battery to the engine compartment. I know, the 182 is nose heavy. I don't care, if you're going to use a small battery like the Odyssey, it should have a short cable to the starter.
1. Remove Rear Battery, APU, Battery Cable 2. Firewall Battery 3. Hartzell 3 blade prop [Metal one] 4. PPonk, Seaplanes West Motor Mount 5. Modern Garmin Avionics 6. Aerocet Floats All of this moves the CG forward.
On my recently acquired 73 185 I have noticed it is a bit sluggish on cranking over and the fact that the battery is 7 years old am going to replace it. After reading a bunch and looking at the options the new Gill sealed 7035-28 has some excellent specs.

This is just an FYI post to let you know that EarthX has new STC's for the use and installation of both 12V or 24V aircraft.STC Approval for EarthX 24V Battery for Cessna 172N, 172P, 172Q, 172R, 172S STC Approval for EarthX 12V Battery for Hawker Bee…
I welded a 2 inch NPT bung into the top of the tank to accept the pump. The tool box on the front houses a group 27 battery, an isolator switch, solar panel connection, and room for some oil and rags, and misc. The positive and negative on the pump are wired to the battery and isolator with an inline fuse that came with the pump.
There is negligible weight difference between the O-300 and O-360, and the extra power is a real bonus! We chose the Del-Aire engine STC. We bought a Lycoming O-360-A2D with only 65 TTSN, and replaced the 'shower of spark' mags with new Bendix dual impulse coupling mags. This allows for hand starts even with zero battery voltage.
I just ordered an airglas extended baggage kit and I have an uninstalled F. Atlee battery box and SBS J-16 battery in the hangar. Any weight I can loose off the nose of the airplane will help a lot at this point. The width of the SBS battery is 3.01in and the Earthx is 3.1in. The rest of the dimension are smaller so hoping it will squeeze in there.
