All in all, I don't think it came out too bad. I can still see where the repair is, but it's not as fugly as a big chip in the paint. I am still considering sanding it all down and starting over, but honestly the only way I know of to make it look smoother and blend in better would be to airbrush it. :think

So I want to repair that crack before sending it to my painter. After researching on line for a while I am a bit confused about what these bags/tour paks are made of. At first I thought it was ABS plastic, but then read it was actually GTX plastic and any and all ABS adhesives won't work with GTX.
The dealership quoted an $1800 repair which included the entire clutch basket and starter. Luckily I had a friend that was a mechanic on the helos I work on, I am a wire chaser, and he stepped in. He showed me that I could get a new starter gear riveted on to the clutch basket and a new gear for the starter.
I think the first thing I would do is to check that the speedo itself works. Remove the cable from the drive head at the wheel, screw the cable to the back of the speedo, chuck the wheel end of the cable into an electric drill, run the drill to see if the speedo spindle turns.
