I had puchased the Vizio 5.1 Surround Sound Home Theater with Wireless Subwoofer (VHT510). Here is my Dilemma: I want 5.1 Surround sound. Vizio's Sound System only takes ONE input: Optical (an optical wire is supposed to be plugged into the TV's Optical Out and the TV is supposed to act as the mixer)
The Vizio TV did take the player's HDMI signal directly without going through the receiver, but through the component and standard video inputs, the picture went black as soon as PAL material started- the resolution (576i, not sure about the number exactly) appeared on the TV's display, but it wouldn't display the picture on the screen, making ...

Both sound really good in Stereo as well as HT. The new S960h sounds so much better in HT, from the discrete channels in Atmos but also because I replaced my older Infinity Surround/Surround back speakers with Polk TL1 speakers. The Polk TL1 speakers sound clearer and are voiced better with the front Polk TSI100 speakers.
In most cases speakers A + B both run off the same (Front) amp channels. Also, most receivers only go as high as 200hz on the crossover and those little Bose speakers only go down to 280hz so 200 to 280 won't be reproduced.
I just got a new TV (Vizio M65-E0) that has only one HDMI port capable of handling 4K UHD input. I have two devices currently that output 4K UHD (Blu Ray player and Roku) and it's possible that I'll be adding more in the future. Because of my room setup (and my wife's wishes) I can't do rear speakers.
The reason it seems to sound fuller is that 5 ch stereo takes info from the front two speakers and spreds it around to the center and surrounds so all 5 speakers have pretty much the same volume. 5.1 Dolby Digital uses mainly the front three channels and the surrounds are only used for ambience or "as needed".
