All Africa Men's and Women's Team Badminton Championships is a continental stage tournament of Thomas and Uber Cups, organized by the Badminton Confederation of Africa (BCA), to crown the best national men's and women's badminton teams in Africa. Badminton made its debut in the African Games in 2003. The first six nations to compete in badminton at the Games were Nigeria, Egypt, South Africa, Kenya, Mauritius and Seychelles. Six main events were held, which were men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles, mixed doubles and the mixed team event. [1]
The All Africa Men's and Women's Team Badminton Championships officially crowns the best male and female national badminton teams in Africa and at the same time works as the African qualification event towards the 2020 Thomas & Uber Cup finals. 13 teams consisting of 9 men's team and 4 women's team have entered the tournament.
The team made their first appearance at the African Badminton Championships in 2006. In 2007, the team made their debut at the African Games mixed team event. The Ethiopian men's and women's team also competed in the African qualifiers for the Thomas and Uber Cup in 2012 when the country hosted the tournament. [2]
