Latest windows version of the Deluge bittorrent client works great on xp. Also, I've had great success with Pidgin 2.14.1, not sure if later versions work but it stops working on xp at around 2.14.6. I use it mainly for the discord plugin because it's a great alternative to using the bloated web client.
For anyone that's missed it, on September 20th the community started a public list of download links for numerous archived programs confirmed to work on Windows XP. Today I took a break from editing and counted 112 download links plus various useful websites, excellent work people! Let's keep it growing, additions and suggestion are welcome.
WinAMP, MusicMatch Jukebox, some old Source or Eduke Engine Games, Windows Media Center Edition theme + screensavers. I also use a lot of the basic Win9x era stuff on my XP PC. XPs 9x backwards compatibility and 16bit emulation is pretty great IMHO, only the more complex DOS stuff that requires drivers won't work (well).
The Holzma beam saw I operate at work has windows XP on the console to run the Holzma CADMatic 3 software that is needed to program and operate the saw. It was written for NT 4.0 and the system was upgraded at some point.
Windows XP came right at the point where media really began to transition away from discs to online media, so I have a strong nostalgia for those discrete hypermedia discs. CD-based encyclopedias were a huge part of my Windows 98 - early Windows XP experience. Britannica was my favorite.
It is supporting compression so the image with high compression set does not take a lot of space. Restoring a common windows xp partition only takes a few minutes. It understands XP or windows 98 very well so it will ask you if you want to delete the unnecessary swap before imaging for example. Newer software is completly dumb in this area.
Windows XP Professional - Pretty much the most standard XP version there is. I'd personally recommend this for 32 bit machines. If you don't know which one to pick, go with this one. Windows XP Professional x64 - A 64 bit version of standard XP, not to be confused with Windows XP 64-bit Edition, a whole different version that will not be discussed.
Hey guys, I love Windows XP. I grew up with it (16 as of this Redfit post) but as 7 was then my main OS (still is because of the better UI and preference) I now decided to get a rare laptop my brother owned - the Patriot 3070 - aka the ECS G330 which, was rebranded by different companies (here in the UK Dixons Currys PC World & DSG Retail ...
Cygwin 2.5.2 can add even more tools from GNU/Linux to make Windows XP more powerful. If you prefer a more native environment, look for MSYS2 (unsure about the last Windows XP version) or individual applications built with MinGW-w64 or tagged Generic. Or maybe MinGW + MSYS. Blender 2.76 works on Windows XP for those who know how to use it ...
