By 1990 it was the fourth-largest ballet company in the United States, and the largest one that was a co-venture between two cities. [3] In 2000, the founding Cleveland base of operations then led by Board President, Robert G. Jones of Key Bank, closed the company and the ballet began operating based exclusively in San Jose.
A native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, [2] Guadalupe began her classical ballet training with Ballets de San Juan, becoming one the company's youngest members. [3] As a young teenager, Guadalupe relocated to the United States on a scholarship to study under George Balanchine, father of American ballet, at the prestigious School of American Ballet in New York City.
Gregory joined American Ballet Theatre (ABT) in 1965. In 1967, when ABT was on tour in San Francisco, Gregory made an auspicious debut as Odette-Odile in Swan Lake. Her New York debut in that role later the same year marked her emergence as a major ballerina. The role is one in which her performance is still recognized as definitive.

Donald McKayle (July 6, 1930 – April 6, 2018 [2]) was an American modern dancer, choreographer, teacher, director and writer best known for creating socially conscious concert works during the 1950s and '60s that focus on expressing the human condition and, more specifically, the black experience in America.
McIver is originally from San Jose, California and moved to New York City at age 14 on a Ford Foundation Scholarship for dance. In New York, McIver trained at George Balanchine's School of American Ballet during the summers of 1965 and 1966, and was enrolled full-time in the advanced division courses at the School of American Ballet 1967–70. She graduated in 2004 and, at the age of 19, was given a soloist contract with the San Francisco Ballet. [3] [5] She was a principal dancer with Ballet San Jose (later Silicon Valley Ballet) in San Jose, California, from 2013 until the company's closure in 2016. [4] [6] She performed the title role in Cinderella in 2015. [7]
