If it were me, I'd be looking for $3,000 cars, that I can negotiate down to $2,000. Something Japanese like a Honda or Toyota or mazda, and something with a manual transmission. High mileage with the manual doesn't scare me. 200,000 miles? No big deal. Manual transmissions also have less resale value, which will help you out.
In January 2022 I will need a car, just to get groceries and go to the gym. With the current market, I thought about buying a Stick shift car for under $2000 from a private seller. I initially wanted to spend only $1000, but Toyota Tercels with 160k and butchered interior are going for $1500 where I live, which is Salt Lake City.
Couple hours a day every day all week. As soon as you find that car in your price range be prepared to fly over there and have cash in hand. It took me 3 months to find a car for my daughter (she's 19 first car) with a budget of $5k! I think there's a sticky for this sub that lists all the decent affordable cars.
It took me a year to find a reasonable used car under $3000. I wanted something newer than a 2006. I had a 2002 Hyundia Accent and found a 2009 Hyundia Accent for $2000...was a month ago. Low mileage, too. I viewed craigslist and offerup everyday. Not a member of facebook (but looked at the marketplace often).
Show me where I can get a Miata or Corvette for $2k and I'll be all over it. All the Corvette's near me are $4k, and that's for some POS that hasn't run in a year. Miata's can be had for $2k, but all of the ones I see for that price have 200,000 miles and an automatic transmission.
Hey there! I’m a student who is wondering what the Best first car is under $2k. I ideally want something that is reliable, can last a long time and won’t give me problems since I don’t want to spend money fixing it. I also preferably want something with at least decent gas mileage since I do delivery’s for work. Thank you!
Me and 3 friends would like to get some hands-on experience with cars and have some fun while doing it, but we don't want to spend more than $500 each. We thought about doing 24hrs of LeMons but that turned out to cost almost double that after all the safety equipment.
I have had some pretty sweet deals, I have bought 3 vehicles for under $100, one just needed new tires, new filters, and new gas. One was a lady trying to get out of a hit and run, and one was a dealer thinking the car needed a tranny when it only needed a torque converter. But at the end of the day, the cheap cars are just that, cheap cars.
MSRP under -- looks like after destination and dealer fees it's closer to $26K, so I guess that would put it out of the running. That's doing the build form online. MSRP is like $23,800, so presumably you could get one at $25K OTD at a dealer if you negotiate off everything but the $1200 destination charge.
Yes, it is possible to find quality used cars for under $6,000, but it may require some effort and research. Here are some tips to help you find a reliable used car within your budget: Look for older cars: Older cars tend to be less expensive than newer ones. Look for cars that are at least 5-7 years old and have a good reputation for reliability.
