In 1939, Rombauer published Streamlined Cooking, a collection of recipes that could be prepared in less than 30 minutes, with an emphasis on use of canned and frozen foods. Broda Otto Barnes (14 April 1906 – 1 November 1988) was an American physician and professor of medicine who studied endocrine dysfunction, particularly hypothyroidism. [4] [5] In the 1970s, Barnes published several books arguing that hypothyroidism was underdiagnosed in the U.S. and was responsible for a wide range of health problems.
The publishing of the book was met with positive reviews from many established publications, including Saveur, The Atlantic, and Food52. [4] [5] [6] It was named "Food Book of the Year" by The Times of London [7] and was a New York Times best seller. [8] Even after its publication in 2017, the book remained on best-seller list for years.
