West Lafayette was laid out in 1850 by Robert Shaw and William Wheeler. [3] [4] In 1855, the Steubenville and Indiana Railroad was built through the new town.The line became known as the Panhandle Route and was operated in the Pennsylvania Railroad [5] system and currently by the Columbus and Ohio River Railroad (Ohio Central Railroad System).
Louisville's first public street lights, twelve oil burners, were lit downtown for Christmas 1884. In 1894, a public water system was established for Louisville, and a sewage system installation followed in 1910. The town's Main Street became Louisville's first fully paved road in 1914.
Ridgewood High School is a public high school in West Lafayette, Ohio. It is the only high school in the Ridgewood Local School District. The district has six buildings, including one elementary school, one middle school and one high school, as well as district administrative buildings. A new high school building opened in 2002.
