The Drury Development Corporation was founded in 1959. The Drury family built its first hotel, a Holiday Inn, in 1962 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. William Neil built the hotels after arriving in the city in 1818, and having operated a tavern in the location from 1822 to 1839.
