Founded in 1804, it is a four-year boarding and day high school for students in grades 9-12 and postgraduate. A middle school, with grades 6–8, offers boarding for grade 8 students. The academy is located in the center of the town of Wilbraham, 75 miles (121 km) from Boston and 150 miles (240 km) from New York City.
Green Meadows Elementary School opened in 1956. In 1956, Hampden joined with the neighboring town of Wilbraham in a unified school district for grades 9–12. The school was the 335th-ranked public high school in New Jersey out of 339 schools statewide in New Jersey Monthly magazine's September 2014 cover story on the state's "Top Public High Schools", using a new ranking methodology. [4] The school had been ranked 311th in the state of 328 schools in 2012, after not being ranked in 2010. [5]
It includes properties on Mountain Road (roughly the southern boundary of the district), Main Street, and Faculty Street. Wesleyan Academy was founded in 1817 and moved to Wilbraham in 1824; its oldest buildings date to 1825. It merged with Monson Academy in the 20th century to form the present school that occupies the academic premises.
