Home of the first agricultural experiment station in the United States. It was started in 1875 in Middletown and moved to New Haven in 1877. The land that is now Brooksvale Park was once part of a farm owned by the Brooks family, who settled in the area in the early 18th century. In the early 20th century, the Brooks family began selling off parts of their land, and in 1958, the Town of Hamden purchased the remaining 54 acres to create a public park.

Highwood is a neighborhood in the south-central portion of the town of Hamden, Connecticut. It is primarily residential, with a mixture of small apartment buildings and single-family, two- and three-family homes. Commercial development is concentrated on its principal street, Dixwell Avenue. [1]

It is located in Connecticut's 3rd congressional district.Most of the neighborhood is in the 11th state senate district, with a small western portion in the 17th, and most of it is in the 91st state house district, with a small western portion in the 94th.
