The Long Loneliness is the autobiography of Dorothy Day, published in 1952 by Harper & Brothers.In the book, Day chronicles her involvement in socialist groups along with her eventual conversion to Catholicism in 1927, and the beginning of her newspaper the Catholic Worker in 1933.
After the success of Weill and Brecht's previous collaboration, The Threepenny Opera, the duo devised this musical, written by Hauptmann under the pseudonym of Dorothy Lane. Hauptmann's sources included, among others, Major Barbara. [1] The première took place in Berlin on 2 September 1929. [2]

During the Great Depression, Dorothy Day's Catholic Worker Movement (CWM) was concerned with the plight of the homeless. In 1933, the CWM opened the first House of Hospitality for women in New York. It could accommodate fifteen women, and it had heating and hot water.

"Lady Writer" is a 1979 song by Dire Straits, which appears on the band's second album Communiqué. It was written by the band's lead singer, Mark Knopfler. When asked what the song was about, Knopfler said that he was watching TV one day, and there was a lady writer on the TV.
