Skip Bayless (born John Edward Bayless II; born December 4, 1951) [2] [3] is an American sports columnist, commentator, and television personality. He is well-known for his work as a commentator on the ESPN2 show First Take with Stephen A. Smith , a show which he left in June 2016. [ 4 ]
The show's opening theme song, "No Mercy", was recorded by American rapper Lil Wayne, a friend of Bayless' and a frequent guest from his former ESPN show First Take. The song was written and produced by Jared Gutstadt , president and CCO of Jingle Punks Music , which had partnered with Fox Sports prior to the show's launch.
The 72-year-old Bayless has been with FS1 since 2016 after spending 12 years at ESPN. He reportedly signed a four-year, $32 million contract extension in 2021.
However, Bayless has continued to be on the show every day since the move (except for vacation periods), and the basic format has not changed. On August 11, 2008, the show moved to ESPN2 because ESPN unveiled its new live SportsCenter block in the mid-morning and afternoon. In August 2011, parent show First Take underwent a drastic format change.
