The largest collection of ship models is thought to be the collection at the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, which numbers nearly 5,000, most of which are held in the Model Store at the No. 1 Smithery at the Historic Dockyard Chatham, Kent. In private hands two of the largest collections belong to the hobbyists who made them.
The true instigator of the 1:350 scale ship series was the British kit company Frog (models), which was started in 1932 by Joe Mansour and brothers Charles and John Wilmot. The first four years FROG focused on flying scale models, but in December 1936 they released the first three all-plastic kits, in a range called Penguin.

Ough was born in Leytonstone, London.His father, Arthur Ough (1863–1946), was an architect, surveyor and civil engineer. [1] At the age of two Ough accompanied his parents to Hong Kong, [2] where his father was employed as an architect for the University of Hong Kong and the Kowloon-Canton Railway, remaining there for four years.
